The New York Football Giants returned to Metlife Stadium on Thursday, August 8, for the start of the first preseason game. The Giants played against the Detroit Lions, a matchup that usually occurs once during the preseason and possibly a few more times during the regular season.Â
The game could have been better, and the first quarter ran for almost fifty minutes. The Giants put in their brand new Quarterback to start this game, Drew Lock. Lock was having trouble making passes meet with the receivers during this time. Nearly every ball thrown was a near miss, and The Giants could not make ends meet with him. However, before the first quarter could even conclude, Lock left the game with a sudden hip injury, casting a shadow of uncertainty over his return to the regular season. He may return. However, there are more problems among quarterbacks.Â
Backup quarterback Tommy DeVito took his place for the rest of the preseason game. His first few throws seemed a bit off-center; however, once he was finally warmed up, Devito made sure he was making ends meet with the receivers, and the Giants looked like they were in decent shape for the rest of the game.Â
Daniel Jones, among other starters, did not play in this game. Jones went out with a torn ACL during last year's game and has not played since then.Â
With the regular season just a few weeks away, the Giants, now down to two quarterbacks, face a crucial decision. However, the team's determination to overcome these challenges is evident. They have more work to do during the preseason to ensure they are in top form for the upcoming regular season. With two more games left in the preseason, the Giants are focused on their goal and ready to return full-time for the regular season.Â
They hope things will begin to turn around for this team this week at training camp. However, multiple players, such as Evan Neil, Michael John Schmitz, and several others, are coming onto and off the injury report list and have not played since last year.Â
Daniel Jones also returned to throwing snaps at practice, and things are not looking great for the quarterback. Hopefully, with a week's worth of training camp practice, he will have things back together for this coming weekend's game.Â
This coming weekend against the Texans might be an interesting one.Â
